The #DumsorMustStop protesters have gathered at the main gate of the University of Ghana, waiting to commence their vigil.

The vigil is expected to proceed from the University of Ghana to the Tetteh Quarshie roundabout, where the organisers will deliver a statement.

Movie actress, Yvonne Nelson, has posted on social media her resolve to embark on the protest even if the turnout is low even though she’s yet to arrive at the converging point.

About thirty police personnel have been deployed to take charge of the protest despite earlier attempts to thwart it over disagreements on the location.

Yvonne Nelson insists that the power situation is unstable and that she was triggered by a video from the Tema General Hospital about an alleged power outage that caused the death of a baby. She fears that her current condition, pregnancy, could be similarly affected hence her decision to organize a vigil to register her displeasure

The #DumsorMustStop vigil aims to pressure the government to resolve the country’s power crisis, which has seen many parts of Ghana experience intermittent power supply at peak hours. The organizers blame the government’s inability to pay for required fuel as asserted by independent power producers for the crisis.
