On Thursday, June 6, 2024, an Accra High Court remanded Usman Haruna into police custody.

Haruna is alleged to have stabbed Ato Koomson, son of Awutu Senya East Member Parliament Mavis Hawa Koomson, during a scuffle at the Electoral Commission office in Ofaakor near Kasoa in the Central Region.

The police arrested Haruna during the disturbance, which occurred around 5 am on Sunday, June 2, 2024, before the day’s activities began at the EC office, leading to the stabbing of Mr. Koomson.

The suspect is scheduled to reappear before the court on June 19, 2024.

An eyewitness reported that the clash erupted over a disagreement regarding the queuing of voters seeking to transfer their votes to the constituency.

During the violence, Ato Koomson was stabbed in the chest and was rushed to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.

Additionally, three members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) were injured and admitted to the Kasoa Polyclinic.
