International Community School, an Accra-based high school, has clinched the prestigious Business Cup Challenge organized by Lancaster University, Ghana.

The event, held on November 23, 2024, at the GNAT Hall in Accra, saw International Community School outshine thirty-five other senior high schools from across the country.

Themed “Sustainability,” the Business Cup Challenge aimed to foster entrepreneurial skills among Ghanaian high school students. Participants engaged in real-world business planning, analyzed critical scenarios, and presented their cases before a panel of academics and professionals.

As part of the competition, participants stood a chance of winning a trophy for their school while developing new business ideas and gaining valuable knowledge.

Kicking off on February 1, 2024, the four-week event progressed through rigorous semi-finals and finals.

Thought Titans, the representing team from International Community School, emerged as the winner for this year’s competition, taking home a cash prize of GHS 20,000 as well as scholarships from Lancaster University Ghana and other exciting prizes.

Standing as the first runner-up was Team Brainex from Dayspring International School, receiving a cash prize of GHC 10,000. Also, Ecobiz DPS and Team Dominion from Dominion Christian Academy emerged as the second runner-up and were awarded a cash prize of GHC 5,000.

Meanwhile, some individual participants were recognized for their outstanding performance.
They include:

Best Female Pitch Award-Yeji Kim, DPS International School

Best Male Pitch Award- Woelorm Agbedanu, PRESEC Legon.

Most Eloquent Female- Maame Esi Winful, Association Int. School.

Most Eloquent Male- Kelvin Odoom, Dominion Christian Academy.

Some of the participating schools included Tema International School, Merton International School, Dayspring International School, Adisadel College, The Hilltop International British School, East Airport International School, Faith Montessori School, and Ghana Christian International High, among others.

Addressing the audience, the Provost of Lancaster University, Dr. Emmanuel Arthur revealed the institution’s efforts in sustaining the interests of young people in incorporating technology in their education.

“This University is poised to ensure that we give the best to everyone who engages with us. That is why by the end of the year we will be setting up our emerging technology lab for artificial intelligence and robotics so that computer science students can start learning something about what is happening in today’s tech space. Our law students will be able to set up digital hotspots so that our law students don’t just learn law but it will be infused with technology”.

Emphasizing Lancaster University’s commitment to promoting quality education, Dr. Emmanuel Arthur said, “We’ve got to start a future now so that by the time we get there, the future that we want will be waiting for us. I see fertile minds that we can prepare for the future. I am confident that from this program, we will nurture the next generation of top leaders and entrepreneurs not only in Ghana but the world at large.
