Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Majority Leader in Parliament, has lauded his predecessor, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, for his significant contributions and enduring presence in parliament.
He believes that Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s legacy is worth emulating and continuing.
On Friday, February 23, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu officially announced his resignation to Parliament. This followed his prior notification to the caucus about his decision on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.
In his address to Parliament on the same day of his confirmation as the Majority Leader, Mr Afenyo-Markin praised Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu as an integral part of parliament.
He emphasized that his predecessor’s actions, ideas, and presence were not only expected and relied upon but also instrumental in shaping the affairs of parliament.
“Mr Speaker, the venerable Member of Parliament for Suame, honourable Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu he is an institution, no doubt and it is a big shoe I am going to wear,” he stated.
Mr Afenyo-Markin also used the opportunity to call on his colleagues to support him carry on the mantle of his predecessor.
“…But colleagues I call on your cooperation, I call on your support,” he said.
