The Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has announced a celebratory feast for the majority caucus on Wednesday, February 14, to mark the reconciliation of two Members of Parliament (MPs) involved in an altercation in Parliament.

Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, and Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro MP, Sylvester Tetteh, clashed verbally within the Parliament chamber on Tuesday. The issue was promptly addressed by the majority leadership, who facilitated a reconciliation meeting.

The details of the initial disagreement remain unconfirmed. While sources point to a greeting gone wrong, the official cause remains undisclosed.

A closed-door meeting led by Deputy Majority Leader Afenyo-Markin provided a platform for both MPs to express their concerns, leading to a mutual understanding and resolution.

Responding to the cause of the confrontation in an interview with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Tuesday, Mr Afenyo-Markin said what was essential was that the two had reconciled and that the majority caucus would hold a breakfast feast on Valentine’s Day, symbolizing unity and camaraderie.

“What is important is that as a family we managed to reconcile issues and tomorrow the caucus will crown it with a party. Coincidentally, tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and we are going to show love to one another and demonstrate brotherhood. We are one people,” he said.

He added “The party has elections in December. We’re done with all internal elections 98,98%. We need to be united as a party. As Sir John once said, fear delegates. In elections, all manner of things happen. Today we’ve been able to deal with it finally.

“We’ve brought the finality to it. Tomorrow we’ve all agreed that Honourable Kennedy Agyapong is going to sponsor the party. He has released money, the caterers are at work. We are going to have breakfast at 9 am. Not the proper English Breakfast, it is the Ghanaian breakfast where we are all going to eat together.”
