The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has emphasized the importance of establishing a clear funding policy and implementing a transplantation law for renal diseases in the country.

Dr. Frank Owusu Sekyere, the Director of Medical Affairs at KBTH, highlighted that such measures would address the issue of financial access to services provided for renal patients.

During an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM with Selorm Adonoo, Dr. Sekyere underscored the significance of supporting the renal unit to ensure that people can survive renal diseases.

“We need to have a clear discussion, clear policy on funding such conditions. It is the kidney now, but there are other chronic conditions that we need to look at. With a little bit of support there, people can survive.”

“So there are corporate bodies that have come on board, and I think we need more because of the capital-intensive nature of dealing with this condition. We also need to have clear legislation on organ transplantation,” he stated.
